Newspapers are great. I buy one almost every day. Today’s Times is a perfect example of why. Here’s what I learned.

  • You can buy fake Ferraris.
  • 769 million kilos of potatoes are eaten every year in Belgium; 86% of the potatoes grown in Belgium are processed into chips and crisps and 1588 is the year Belgians claim to have invented the chip, one year after potatoes were introduced.
  • In March 1891 it snowed so badly that a train went missing when it got stuck on one of the remotest parts of Dartmoor. Three days later it was found and the crew and passengers were released.
  • An critically sick eight-day-old Palestinian baby has been transferred from the Gaza Strip to a specialist children’s hospital in Tel Aviv where he will get the emergency treatment required to save his life.

The last story is particularly heartwarming.
