Piracy off the coast of Somalia is in the news at the moment. This Live Piracy map <link> from the IMB Piracy Reporting Centre suggests that it much more widespread than just that coast of Africa.

As a retired Merchant Marine Officer I am appalled at the lack of protection for the world fleet.
To arm the crew serves no good purpose,it would only lead to bloodbaths.
I do believe if freighters or other vessels have to operate in these waters;have webbing draped over the side and especially at night under high voltage,so Boarding would definitely be hazardous to anyones life.Have that on all night and with easy reach, during the daytime on or off controls. One toasted pirate would speak volumes.I do hope the worlds navies will see the seriousness of this situation particularly around yemen in the gulf of Aden or around the straits. It galls me that honest people, seafaring and hardworking are placed in harms way due to some
incredible cowardly entrepeneurs.I had to let you know how disgusted I am with this state of affairs.
