Want some cheap ’61 Petrus?

Having written about the £18,000 bottle of fake ’61 Petrus <link>, I found this little application called Wine-Searcher <link>.

As the site says… “Wine-Searcher is your premier search engine for wines. Whether you are a merchant, winery, connoisseur, a consumer, investor, a wine marketing company or simply looking for wine information, this is your place. Our database has 8814 wine-store price lists with over 2.6 million offers. The site also offers a wealth of information about wine.”

Now let’s see how much we can get a ’61 Petrus for. Bordeaux Index <link> have a bottle for £6,750. That’s nearly a third of the price the restaurant diner paid for the fake bottle. If you can afford some, it might be a good idea to check the cork!

Our punter went on to order a ’45 Mouton and paid £20,000. Wine Searcher suggests that he could have bought three, maybe four bottles of this fine drop for that £20,000.

I hope the food was good.

  1. I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you.
